2013 Art Submission Deadline and Guidelines

Hi Ho, artists!

There are 10 days to go before art submissions. We have a record number of participants this year and anticipation is high among the mods for the fabulous new SGA art and fic to come.

So how's it going? Since your submissions are due on the 10th and claiming begins on the 17th, there's not much wiggle room for extensions. If you know you aren't going to be able to have your art completed by the deadline, please let us know as soon as possible so we can look at options.

Below the cut, you'll find the information you need in order to submit your art piece, plus a little bit about how the claiming will work. If you have any questions about the process, please contact a mod or leave us a comment here.

Art Submission Guidelines:

Artists will need to have their main piece – the art that will be submitted for claiming – finished and turned in by March 10, 2013. You can do additional artwork or touch-ups to the main piece after the 10th, but we need at least one finished piece for the authors to work from.

Once you've finished you artwork, please send an email to sgareversebang@gmail.com with the following:

1. Your artwork attached in a web-friendly format (.jpg, .png, .bmp, .gif, etc). Remember that your completed artwork must be at least 500x500px.

2. A thumbnail preview image (maximum 300x300px). This preview image is what the authors will be looking at in the claiming post.

This is an example of what an art preview will look like:

3. Copy and paste the header information below and add the relevant information. You may add additional information; however, each entry must have at least the info shown in the header. Remember that warnings must be included for: non-con, dub-con, minors (under 18) in sexual situations, suicide, and major character death. If you wish for warnings to be hidden under spoiler text, a quick and easy way to do this is to use the code generated by http://tools.oscillating.net/headerbuilder/ under "Warnings or "Contains." Any identifying notes (such as beta info, etc.) will be omitted until the claiming is over.

This year we will allow the artist to include preferences, if they would like, in reference to the fic. If your art suggests a "pairing" you may feel fairly confident that an author choosing your art will see the same, but you need to be aware that may not always be the case. Likewise, your art may strongly not have a pairing, but the author may have other ideas. See the example below for the types of preferences you may specify. Additionally, if there is a certain type of fic you wouldn't like to see (non-con, deathfic, etc.) you may note that, but the mods would ask that you keep it short. In the claiming post, we'll include a mention about authors respecting any artist's preferences and stress the need for contact and communication between artist and author. If you have any question concerning preferences, feel free to leave a comment to this post.

How your header should look:

Title:
Medium(s):
Rating: [G, PG, R, NC17 or equivalents]
Character(s) and/or pairing(s):
Warning(s): [character death, non-con, dub-con, minors (under 18) in sexual situations, suicide, none]
Preferences: [gen, het, femslash, slash, no preference]
Notes:

4. If you're creating a vid or some other type of medium that you're not sure how to submit, please contact the mods for more info.

A Bit of Information About Claiming:

A few days before March 17, 2013, a members-only post will go up with previews of all the artwork so that authors can decide on which artwork they'd like to write for. The post will be closed to comments.

On March 17th, exact time TBD, comments will be turned on so that authors can reply with their top few choices.

Claims will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. If an author's first choice has already been claimed, they'll be given their second choice, then third, and so on. If all of an author's choices have been claimed, the mods will go back to them for the second round.

The second round of claiming will start after all of the artwork has been claimed once. At that time, the mods will go back through the comments and assign first, second, third, etc., choices for authors who didn't get a claim the first time around.

More details on claiming closer to March 17th.

As authors could be in different parts of the world what happens if it's the middle of the night when the post goes out here and by the time I get to select my choices have already been taken? 17th is a Sunday, and I work full time so depending what time the claim post goes out it could be Monday evening (18th) before I am able to enter my choices, so what would happen then, would I just be allotted whatever's left over and if that's the case could I then drop out if I am unable to write for the allotted artwork, say if the artist has requested a pairing I am unable to write, etc?

Thank you! I've never taken part in anything like this before and wondered how it worked with artists and authors around the world.

How to claim

Can I email my claiming list to the gmail address given above? See, I only have, like, an hour or so I'll be online all Sunday my time (GMT+10), which'll probably be in the morning and then after 9 my time. :)

Let me know please if that's not suitable, so I can drop out. :) Its either this or the Atlantis Big Bang. (I couldn't decide...Decisions decisions decisions.) :)
