Hi! When you say 'rounds' will this be done more than once a year? I'd really love to participate, but those dates coincide with me finishing my SmallFandom Big Bang story, getting the art done, etc. But if this is more than a 'once a year' challenge, I'll seriously look at next time.
Hmmm, I was thinking in writer mode.... but this would be art first, right? So I just might be able to participate as an artist instead of a writer. I'll see where I am on my Hewligan BB at sign ups and go from there.
I want to sign up, but I already know I'll be out of the country when fics are due. Can I just submit my story really early and have a mod/someone else post it for me?
The only rules for the artists regarding content is that it has to be SGA-centric obviously, and if you're doing a vid it should be at least a minute long. But I don't know that anyone's doing that yet.
As for medium, I guess craft-type-things are a bit hard to do, since you have to illustrate some kind of scene. But yeah, I guess pretty much anything goes.
Yup, that answers my question. :) I was just wondering if I should wait for prompts or such before noodling on art ideas, or if I could start thinking about it now. Thanks!
What happens if all the artists give slash prompts? I can't see that there are any pairings listed in the artist sign up post and I'm still umming and ahhing about whether to sign up as an author.
I only write Rodney centric gen or het whumping, so if all the artists turn in slashy, non-Rodney pictures I'd have to drop out at that point :( (I know, I'm narrow minded!)
If there are more authors than artists, would you allow more than one fic per pic? Or vice versa?
Also, I don't have a dreamwidth account, although I've subscribed to the comm via LJ openID. Will I still be able to see the members only post?
Each preview picture in the claims post will also have a list of characters and a short summary, so that will hopefully give you a pretty good idea of what you're claiming. I can't guarantee that there will be gen or het art, but even if the picture is slightly slashy, like if it's only implied John/Rodney, you could write it a completely platonic gen-fic to go with it.
I'll be pretty flexible as to how the art and the fic go together, as long as 1) the fic includes all the characters in the artwork and 2) if the art portrays a scene, you have to include that as well. Ultimately it will be up to you and the artist you claim to work out how intertwined the art and fic will be.
So I guess the best way to make sure you claim an art piece that you like would be just to get to the claims post early. I'm sorry, I guess that's not much help :(
At the rate sign-ups are going, it's definitely looking like we'll have more authors than artists, so I'm probably going to do two fics per art.
If you do decide to participate, you can request to join the community with your OpenID account, so that shouldn't be a problem. One problem I can think of, though, is that the members-only posts probably won't show up on your LJ friends-page if you've subscribed to the RSS feed. But I'll be sure to send out emails about all the important stuff, so that shouldn't be a big issue.
I realize that it's not an ideal situation for LJ-only users, but I don't want anyone to feel left out, so I'll do my best to work around any problems the OpenID issue might cause.
I'm not going to make it a requirement. I'm not trying to make it all anonymous and all that, either (I never really see the point, especially with art, since it's so obvious with everyone's different styles lol). And I figure that most artists/authors have go-to people they usually get betas from anyways. But once sign-ups are closed I might do a post to see if people want to be assigned betas/art buddies or something.
Unlike other big bang challenges, I'm trying to make this one pretty laid-back and open-ended. The main goal is to just keep the fandom active, and hopefully the collaborating between artists and authors can produce some really creative stuff :)
I think that for the normal SGABB, the authors were kept anon from the artists during the prompt claiming so people won't just target the authors they know, but take a chance on something that looks interesting and written by someone they possibly don't know?
But yeah, art styles are sometimes very obvious (only if you know the artist, though. ;) )
Oh! Another question. Is this challenge called: 1) SGA reverse bang, 2) SGA reverse big bang, or 3) SGA reverse mini bang?
I love the idea, and I'd love to sign up for a story, but I have a few questions, which is why I'm here! :)
1. I'll post the art previews in a members-only post, along with a short summary, rating, and characters/pairing information. Does that mean that the author must follow the artists' desire for their fic or can they just go with what the art inspires them even if it's a completely different pairing (or no pairing at all) and storyline?
2. What happens if any art piece inspires me enough to write, can I sign up now, and drop out if I don't find an art that suits me? What if I sign up and don't finish in time? Do I get banned for a next round, do I get extra time to complete the fic?
3. Final versions of artwork and fics are due on July 3rd but they can be submitted earlier. I'll start posting things to the comm on July 5th. When you mean posting things to the community, do you mean just the link or the entire fic for people to comment on it here. I'm okay to link, but I don't like having text all over the web.
I think that's it for now. Thanks for your answers!
1. Authors should include all the characters and pairing(s) that are in the artwork, but it doesn't have to be the focus of the fic. So you're not really screwed if you end up with a pairing or characters that you really can't write. Plot is a lot more flexible, and again, your fic doesn't have to center around the exact scene that's being portrayed, but it should be obvious that they go together.
2. About the inspiration thing, well, that's one of the risks (and part of the challenge) of doing something like this. I strongly discourage dropping out just because you don't feel inspired, because signing up is kind of a commitment to the challenge. However, there won't be a penalty as long as you give notice before June 23rd. If you drop out after that date, you'll be banned from the next round. Although I'm really hoping that I won't have to do that.
3. I'll post the full text of the paired fic and art to this community (and it will also show up on the LJ syndicated feed). Once everything has been posted and I put the masterlist up, then people will be free to repost to their own journals/websites/noticeboards/etc.
Okay, this is probably a stupid question, but I couldn't find an answer anywhere: is the art and fic posting to the community going to be anonymous initially? Because your required header informations don't include the artist's or author's name, and the explanations on how the posting is going to work are a bit confusing to me.
Oh sorry about that, I suppose I should've been more clear. When I post the fic and art to the community, it won't be anonymous. I didn't ask for author/artist names in the header info because I already know who you are.
Let me know if there's anything else you'd like me to clarify!
No, sorry. At this point, we might not even have enough authors to do stories for each piece of artwork. But after your art has been claimed, you can talk to your author and maybe make additional artwork for the story!
Okay, so, I SWEAR I read the answer to this question before I signed up, but now I cannot for the life of me track it down: what are the wordcount requierments for authors?
Will you be doing this next year? *crosses fingers, and everything else that will cross, that you will be* If so, I need to start working on an art project so that I can, hopefully, get some of the plot bunnies in my brain written by someone else.
While I'm thinking about it, are crossovers permitted? This is key, since most of the plot bunnies swarming my brain are crossovers.
I'm planning to make it a yearly event as long as there's enough interest.
Can you hold onto that thought for a bit? Once this round is done I'm going to start a discussion post to iron out the kinks for future round(s). Expect to see it up in the next week or so.

I'll keep thinking about it, there's plenty of time for author signups \o/

The official name is SGA Reverse Big Bang. I just thought that would make for kind of a long community name :P

Oohh I see. I was just curious. :)
