I suspected there was a huge 'tell' there with the box but I did want O'Neill to have an obvious hand in John's promotion; it was also a hopeful moment for us fangirls who obviously think he should have been promoted long before this!

Sheppard knows how to do it all properly, he wouldn't have lasted long enough to even be a Major without it. At this point, he's been around enough that he only pulls it out for someone who deserves it...
